1st Reconciliation/1st Communion
Contact: Barbara Hairfield
Preparation for the sacraments of Reconciliation and Holy Communion usually occurs when children have reached the age of reason, typically 7 years old, and are in the second grade. Children preparing for the sacraments should be baptized and active participants in religious education classes and Mass.
Preparation for Reconciliation, which includes separate parent and children sessions, is held in the fall, and the children's first celebration of the sacrament is usually in November. Church law requires that children receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation before their First Holy Communion.
Preparation for the sacrament of Holy Communion includes separate parent and children sessions and a half-day parent/child retreat. Sessions are held in the spring, and the sacrament of First Holy Communion is celebrated in May.
Registration for sacrament preparation classes is held in the fall.
