Nursery/Childcare Providers
Nursery services are provided during the 10:30 AM Mass for children 6 months to
3 years old. Parents of children using the nursery are asked to assist with
childcare; other adults are encouraged to volunteer also. Frequency of this
commitment depends on the number of families using the nursery and the
availability of other volunteers. Adults are also needed to serve as
childcare providers for children 6 months to 11 years old during a variety
of church activities. Volunteers will be contacted as needs arise.
Preschool-Kindergarten
Preschool and kindergarten meet on Sunday during the 10:30 AM Mass from
September through May. Each class is assigned a team of catechists; each
team of two catechists will serve once a month. Responsibilities alternate
between serving as lead catechist and as adult aide. Class size may
require teen aides as well.
Elementary Grades 1-5
Elementary classes are held on Sunday mornings from 9:15 to 10:15 AM from
September through May. Each class is assigned two catechists who work together as
a team to plan and lead sessions. Adult aides assist catechists in larger
classes; aides may also be needed to work with special needs children. A
coordinator is available during class time to assist catechists in gathering
materials and supplies and photocopying as well as to monitor activities in
the Family Life Center.
Sacramental Preparation
First Reconciliation sessions are held in October/November and First
Eucharist sessions are held in February/March. A total of three 2-hour
sessions are held for each sacrament; a 4-hour retreat is also scheduled for
First Eucharist participants and their parents. Adult aides assist
catechists in the classroom and at the retreat. Volunteers are needed to
provide childcare during parent sessions and to assist at the First
Reconciliation reception and First Eucharist retreat.
Children's Liturgy of the Word
Children's Liturgy of the Word, currently offered at the 10:30 AM Sunday
liturgy, allows youngsters the opportunity to listen to and discuss the
Sunday readings at their own level. Leaders of the Word proclaim the
readings and guide discussion; other adults serve as aides and assist in
keeping order. Volunteers serve once every 4-6 weeks.
Vacation Bible School
VBS takes place the third week in July from 9 AM-noon for children 3-11
years old. Daily activities include music, arts and crafts, video time,
storytelling, games and snack time. Planning gets underway in the spring.
The coordinator helps plan, organize and oversee activities. Activity
leaders serve on the planning team and help plan and lead a specific
activity, i.e. music, crafts, etc. Additional volunteers are needed all week
to assist with a variety of activities and serve as crew leaders and aides.
These workers, age 12 and up, attend training prior to the start of VBS.

Adult Faith Formation Opportunities
Contact person: Diane Drahos, 387-0491
Our parish continues to offer a variety of opportunities for adults to grow
in faith. Along with these offerings, there are many varied opportunities
for adults to minister their peers. Staff support and resources are always
provided. Needs vary and are often tied to the yearly liturgical cycle.
Watch the bulletin for regular and new offerings throughout the year.
Advent Evenings of Reflection
Evenings of prayer and reflection are offered in Advent; needs include:
coordinators and prayer leaders (format provided). If refreshments are
served, a volunteer coordinator would help solicit food donations, and help
to provide hospitality.
The Great Adventure
If you want to know more about the 'Big Picture' of our salvation journey, if
you would like to better understand and defend the Catholic Faith, if you
would like to become better acquainted with fellow parishioners and make new
friends in the OLPH community, look no further than
"The
Great Adventure", a
24-part study of the Bible timeline. It is just the vehicle to help you
reach those goals! It is available as a self-directed, self-paced program.
Lenten Parish Mission
A yearly parish mission is typically offered during Lent. It has recently
become a valley-wide effort, with all parishes contributing manpower and
resources for the event. Our greatest needs are usually for: greeters, food
preparation, and hospitality: set-up, serving, and clean-up of light
refreshments.

Faith Festivals
Faith festivals are intergenerational events that provide opportunities for
parishioners to strengthen their knowledge, faith and community. Currently,
