Health and Safety Updates
The obligation to attend Sunday Mass has been reinstated, but this obligation does not apply to those who are ill, have been exposed to a serious illness, or have serious underlying health conditions.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Virginia Department of Health (VDH) have updated their approach for COVID-19 to a more localized “Community Level” awareness to best manage the spread of the virus.
Here are the three levels with corresponding Diocesan Recommendations:
- Community Level LOW: Masks are welcome at the discretion of the individual
- Community Level MEDIUM: Masks are welcome at the discretion of the individual
- Community Level HIGH: One should wear a face covering or mask. Additional precautions may be needed for people at high risk for severe illness.
Please note that Ministers of the Eucharist are still required to wear masks while distributing Communion at Mass.
